Tooth chains

Inverted tooth chains are characterized by high power density, quiet running and their suitability for high peripheral speed.

The type with rolling pivot joints has an important advantage compared to the tooth chain with bushings in that bearing and rolling pivots roll off one another. In contrast to bolt joints there is no sliding friction in the joints resulting in a high degree of efficiency. Wear and warming are minimized. Inverted tooth chains can be divided into different subgroups depending on the respective application.

Inverted tooth drive chains
Inverted tooth drive chains are the optimal solution for requirements exceeding those met by other chains (e. g. roller chains). They allow for low-backlash drives with exact positioning. They are also highly effective, inured to vibration and have minimal noise emission.

Inverted tooth conveyance chains
Inverted tooth conveyance chains are used for application with particularly high transport weights. They run very smoothly and quietly. These chains can optionally be supplied with standard plates, with a ground back, or with special plates.

High-performance inverted tooth chains
High-performance inverted tooth chains are manufactured with staggered individual plates. Rolling pivot joints ensure optimal smoothness of running and minimal sliding friction resulting in low wear and a long life cycle. Due to individual plate arrangements different widths other than the standard ones are also possible.

Inverted tooth chains with bushings
Inverted tooth chains with bushings differ from other inverted tooth chains because pin joints are used. The chain is designed with tooth plates arranged in pairs.

ATC chains

ATC chains are used as tool storages for machining centers and are therefore an interesting alternative to indexing tables, cartridges or portals.

The meander-shaped chain guidance allows for a high storage capacity of tools under limited spatial conditions.

The ATC chain is designed as a Galle chain, and the plates turn on heat treated and coated bushings. Several tool holders are integrated in the bushings providing a gentle fit for the spindle cone of the respective tool. The axial pull-off force can be adjusted depending on the chain arrangement (tools lying, hanging or standing) and the tool weight.

ATC chains are manufactured to customers’ requirements with different pitches.

Bush chains

Bush chains are standardized according to DIN 8164

They are comparable with roller chains according to ISO 606, but they have no rollers. This means, however, that their qualities as to noise behavior and wear are inferior to those of roller chains. Due to their robust design bush chains are mainly used as slow-running drive and conveyor chains under rough operating conditions, e. g. in mining or construction site equipment.

Maintenance-free chains

Special coatings increase the life of the maintenance free roller chain

In its range K&W Transmissies offers the possibility of low-maintenance and maintenance-free chains. Unlike regular chains, maintenance-free chains will continue to operate temporarily without lubrication or with insufficient lubrication. Low-maintenance chains feature a special coating and typically feature special hardening technology on the hinges. Special coatings increase the life of the chain – even with little maintenance! The special coating on the chain pins, bushings and rollers ensures that the chain is particularly resistant to periods, when the chain is not lubricated enough. The extended duration of the use of the chain increases the availability of machinery and equipment.

The use of Marathon chains always makes sense where relubrication or roller chains is either not possible or not desired

Apart from availability, operational safety and reliability, the fact that components are maintenance-free is getting more and more important in machine and plant construction. The use of Marathon chains always makes sense where relubrication or roller chains is either not possible or not desired, but where, nevertheless, a long life cycle is required.

For application areas with certain chain speeds and operating temperatures Wippermann can provide optimal solutions with Marathon chains. They work with a porous, oil-soaked sintered bushing, which is combined with a specially-coated pin to form a self-lubricating chain joint.

The dimensions of Marathon chains are according to ISO 606 so that every standard roller chain can be replaced by a Marathon chain. The breaking load of a Marathon chain exceeds the requirements or respective standards and is comparable to standard Wippermann chains as regards fatigue resistance.

Apart from the standard roller chains according to ISO 606, the Marathon range also comprises roller chains type series GL with straight plates, double pitch roller chains according to ISO 1275 and accumulator chains.
